What makes NutritionWorks different from other nutrition consulting services?

As business partners, we have a great advantage - there are two of us available to best serve our clients!

We have some evening and weekend times available, and we can return your email questions promptly and efficiently.

Our difference also lies in the fact that we are lifestyle change agents.

Our approach with clients is to provide practical and realistic strategies that are developed with self-empowerment in mind. We educate you to be able to make healthy lifestyle choices and we support you along the way with ongoing progress checks. Our programs are customized to suit your goals and needs. We provide personalized grocery shopping tours.

We work with a network of exercise trainers, personal chefs, stress management facilitators, counselors, and other professionals who can assist in a variety of areas so you can reach and maintain your goals.

We each specialize in dealing with a variety of health issues (See About Us) and we are committed to staying in the forefront of medical nutrition therapy, as well as food and beverage trends.

As we continue our search for optimal health and wellness in our own lives, we can better assist you in your own journey of lifestyle change.

How can I see a nutritionist if I am embarrassed to talk about what I eat?

When we ask our clients about what they eat, our primary intention is to get a better understanding of what they may need nutritionally to be able to reach their particular goals. Kathleen jokes with clients that she has never seen a food record that compares with her high school diet!

We have many days that are nutritionally far from perfect. Everyone overeats sometimes, and many of us have foods that we find difficult to eat in moderation.

We don't believe foods are good or bad. Food does not have moral value - it is vital fuel for your body and we aim to help you to view it that way.

Food is not a cause of guilt or shame - it can provide energy and vitality and the ability to lead a full and healthy life.

When you visit us, you won't find judgment. Our goal is for you to find a safe place where you can explore your goals and find ways to achieve them.

What can I expect from my initial nutrition consult?

We will ask you a variety of health and lifestyle questions to help us develop a program to meet your needs.

We also encourage you to interview us. It is important for you to understand our approach and to make sure that you are comfortable with how we work.

The first consult is an opportunity to get your burning nutrition questions answered.

You can also expect us to provide you with a realistic approach to your goal, and some practical strategies to get you started. We will give you meal ideas , as well as suggestions on how to easily incorporate the nutrition changes you need to make into your life.

You will leave the consult with a plan and written materials, and we will follow up with you via phone or email before your next appointment.

You will get as much support as you need to achieve your goals!

How many times will I need to see a nutritionist?

The number of visits varies greatly depending on the client's goals and lifestyle. We see people once, or we see them once weekly, to help meet their needs. The number of visits is decided together with the client. It is generally helpful to have at least 2 - 3 consults so that we can evaluate the success of the nutrition care plan.

Will your visit be covered by insurance?

Some insurance plans cover specific nutritional counseling referred to as Medical Nutrition Therapy. Typically, weight loss with no other diagnosis, is not covered by insurance.

It is a great idea to call your insurance company and ask them the following questions:

  • Am I covered for nutrition counseling provided by a Registered Dietitian?
  • If so, how many visits am I entitled to?
  • Do I require a physician referral?

For some insurance companies, a physician referral may improve the likelihood of coverage.

We work with the following insurance companies: Regence, Aetna, Premera Blue Cross, Cigna and First Choice.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes, we do have a 24-hour cancellation policy. The client will be billed in full for any no-show or cancellation within 24 hours of the pre-scheduled appointment. Remember, you are making a commitment not only to improved wellness, but to us as well. Please respect our time and effort in this matter.
